Anyone know if this is still being trialled in the South East, and if so, where?

(and have any of you tried it + what were the results?)

Ta! 8)

Tescos in Winchester has it (just off the M3), although that's more south than south east. Tried a tankful when I was trying to get the car running right but didn't notice any difference and the car is still running bad!! :(

I use it fairly often. Runs pretty much the same as when on Optimax in my opinion.

Tesco 99 should be available at most of their filling stations. We use it in the racer as it is one point up from Optimax. You'll not notice any real difference on your road car unless it is set up on a rolling road and set for the 99.

One of those two brands you mention I have been advised (on extremely good authority) not to use in older cars. Sorry to sound cryptic but there is a reason!

mine definitely runs better on optimax compared to 95RON, and if this tesco stuff is even cheaper than optimax, it's gotta be worth a go. i've got the knock sensor (motronic M1.3 without cat) , which i think means the ECU can alter ignition timing to suit the grade of fuel, no?

Yep that's right, same as mine.

AFAIK the main advantage of the knock sensor without cat is that this allows the ecu to advance ign timing as far as possible for each grade of fuel - obviously once "knocking" or "pinking" occurs the ecu backs off a touch but this give max power for that fuel.

I do however beleive that the 16valve valve seats are not as solid as some people beleive and I nearly always use an additive - Castrol valvemaster plus is my preferred choice - because after years of hard driving I found my seats were not as solid as I would of expected, also several competant citroen specialists have said if the 16v gets a hard life it is well worth using leaded or an additive so I do.

They do like optimax though but I suspect most people remember the early version of optimax which started eating Vauxhall valve seats?

Cheers

Formula Shell!

Formula Shell -Remember that? Circa 1987.

Shell spent huge sums promoting the stuff as superior to 4*
Cost more too.

Then some people reported valve problems, and the media made a big fuss and it was withdrawn hastily.

Never heard what the problem really was.

Only problem with Shell cost-timax is the obscene price.

98 RON is available in France for almost the same price as the 95,
In UK they charge lots more for 97RON.

Will try the Tesco stuff when I see it.
I believe it is petrol mixed with ethanol, which is a 'green' renewable resource.
So you can help save the planet or pandas etc. when you floor it away from the lights.

This has arrived in lieu of Costimax at my local Shell garage.
(without the fancy big nozzle they have abroad)

I will try it in the BX next time I fill up to see how it compares with the 95
I have in it at the moment.
