Bertie

Bertie has been a bit neglected of late. He hasn't been out to play since Brands Hatch September 2018 when he took a class win and 6th overall. Thought he could with some tlc and a bit of sprucing up before venturing out on track hopefully very soon.

Would Bertie look right with Supertourisme style "open" rear wheels ie sans normal wheel arch covers?

And what about the Supertourisme colour scheme? Would it suit Bertie? Perhaps with a white bonnet?

What are your thoughts?

Thinking along the lines of this colour scheme but with white bonnet (have to display race number).

Made some progress. Haven't got very far with new colour scheme but Bertie is fit to race again.

You can watch him on classic sports car club livestream on youtube or facebook tomorrow starting with qualifying at 10am. Race 1 about 1pm and race 2 about 6pm. It'll be nice to get out for a Sunday drive again. With 41 cars entered hopefully we can finish in the top 50.

Great to hear Bertie is back. I can’t tune in as I’ll be on French autoroutes, but good luck Gary.

Just watched the qualifying, No. 93 got a bit of air time and a mention just after the red flag. Shame there were further issues that brought the restart to a swift end. Some nice cars out there, the Capri and Sunbeam looked good.

Maybe catch the racing later. :D

Qualifying was a bit of shambles. At the briefing we were told to get 3 banker laps in before pushing for a fast lap. I held back to leave pit lane last as I wanted to build up speed and get to know the car again. So 5000rpm for lap 1, then 500 rpm increments each lap. Start of lap 4, 6500 but yellows, then red. Back to pit lane, then 3 laps behind pace car and session end.
As expected there were a few issues, no water temp, clutch riding high, brake grabbing, to name a few. Jack got them all sorted while I refuelled. Race 1 was then cancelled. Race "2" was in doubt until nearly 5pm. Lined up 34th of 40 qualifiers and spent what racing I did battling it out with a Corvette. Absolutely loving it until temp gauge started rising rapidly and puff of vapour could be seen coming from bonnet. Switched off. Towed back to paddock. Credited with 35th overall and 4th in class out of 5.

Oh drat, Luke and I had been chatting while watching the live feed. I was convinced race 2 wouldn't happen and stopped watching 😭 I did get some snaps of Bertie off the screen though. Will post them when I e got more time. Great to see it back on track though!

Bit of Bertie over on youtube.

Title - CSCC Special Saloons and Modsports Race Brands Hatch. Shows Bertie chasing the 7.7 litre Chevy a couple of times plus some other bits.

Now I'm scared to Google it 🤣

Bertie is Gary's Citroen BX 16Valve race car.
