Ecu fault codes

Post by martyn »

I have an intermitant cold start problem which luckily hasn't yet left me stranded :D but before it does :( has anybody managed to succesfully read the ecu's fault codes and put them to good use. I've seen code readers in Halfords and on Ebay but I seem to remember reading somewhere that they don't work with the Bx and none of the local garages I've asked can help (...too old  )

This is how you do it:

This is the codes:

This all relates to the 8V versions, but IIRC, it is also applicable to the 16V, if not, let me know and I can try and dig them up for you.

Alan, just had a thought, would there be any damage done to the ecu if I grounded the wrong pin :? , I ask as I'm not 100% sure if I understand the aussiefrogs poster when he states " keep notch to the top " are the TZi and 16v plugs the same ?

I think it's the same plug on all motronic psa engines. I did the self diagnosis procedure at my AX GTi many times with the procedures described in the aussiefrogs.

I think Christoa has answered that one.
I haven't personally had cause to do one but know quite a few who have and they all reckon it's easy and accurate.

Just a follow up to my original post about an intermittant starting problem.
Shortly after, it happened again, so I did the usual quick checks, no joy, then I started to make and break all the accessable connectors then I found one over the gearbox that I'd never noticed before, did that one and eversince I've had no problem :D I think it could have been the CAS plug does that sound about right :?:

Quite possibly I'd say it would be as the CAS is in that region.

It is the TDC sensor which read from the flywheel ring gear.
The sensor itself is located under the HP pump iron plate and you should notice theh black screened cable running off under there.
