Quad headlights - Converting LH to RH

Post by Mike P »

I'm not sure if we've covered this before.

Can you convert a pair of morettes from the continent to the correct beam pattern / position for this country :?:

Is it just a case of fitting new lenses :?:

shouldnt be a problem mike!
two options i would think!
1 - replace the 'optic' (no not the pub one!) with the correct dip beam -about £25 each iirc! (thats what mine was for a lucus one when a stone chipped mine!) the spot light one should be fine!
2 - Turn the lefties upside down! :D

Haven't I read somewhere that 3-series BMWs of the 80s variety have the right size units?

Will definitely require new units....

The size is most of time the same, but it's important that the fitting on the bolts is the same!!!
The advance of 5series headlights is, that they are perfect for fitting Xenon, because there projectorlights.

the actual lamp optic isnt bolted top anything! it sits in a surround thats bolted into the lamp unit ont he sprung adjuster bolts, if you look at the quads then you can see on both sides of the unit there are two metal retaining springs that clip onto the edge of the lamp! so if the 5 series ones are the same then they ought to be able to be unclipped and poped in but i think they may be bolted into place?? (not actually seen them so cant say for sure!)

But check before buy, there are many different quad headlights.
I've got 4 different pairs!!!!
2 with 3bolted (different) and 2 4bolted (also different)

1Example, the Morette ones with eyebrows:

A "SG" pair (without eyebrows):

that pic is the bolts that hold the adjuster plate in! if you take the front cover off and look at the lamp unit you should find two metal bits on either side of the unit that are sprung to hold it inplace into the adjuster unit!!

The one with eyebrows (Morette) has got adaptors, but the SG ones without eyebrows hasn't got adaptors. The mountings are in one piece as the lights.
I'll make some detailed pictures soon!
