I just picked up exactly the same cap from my local factors for £11
I got the cap, rotor, coil & amp all for £68... that little lot would have been £125 at GSF :D :D

I've said it before and will say it again, an OE cap and arm is cost effective in the long run.

It's just the £110 and tripping over your pants round your ankles as you pay for it at the Main Stealer that is the hard part

Point taken Mike but as I only do 2k a year £23 for cap & arm(Lucas) I'll give 'em go, 'though I wont be binning the originals just in case
The ignition amp came with a satchet of clear goo, is this a heat transfer paste? as the only stuff I've ever known has been white.

correct about the paste martyn.

i'd be interested to know if your ignition amp works ok - every time i've tried to fit a new one to mine, it cuts off the engine over 2,500 revs :?

So just to clarify, are the GSF ones as good as real Citroen or are the best ones only available from Cit themselves?

I did look at that ebay one when it was active but thought Motaquip isn't GENUINE? I thought Gen would be in Pug/Cit Box/wrap?

I thought that too, so I asked at the factors about Motaquip stuff and without any prompting he said Citroen used Motaquip products
Mike, did your Citroen supplied cap have brass or alluminium contacts?
Rob I'll let you know how the amp performs.

Martyn

Brass contacts IIRC, haven't got the car anymore so I can't check.

Very. Silver is best, followed by copper, gold then alluminium & brass. Alluminium alloys & brass are a cheaper alternative to copper and at the very high voltages an HT coil works at are fine.

Shows how much attention i paid at school!

Always thought anything that you couldn't stick a magnet to was non-conductive.

Never even considered it before but i guess that means i can weld Ally with my MIG then. Never even occurred to me!

In theory you can but it takes a lot more amps than steel to melt as it's far more conductive, it's the resistance of the wire that generates the heat to melt it, it all depends on the power of your kit, you'd probably need to use argon as well to prevent the ally from oxidising.
