Anyone think that the tailgate can be repaired? I have a rear lamp for it at home.

And that's why a lot of this country's skills are dying with the older generations retirement.

In most cases (especially with modern cars) it's cheaper to replace than repair, so why bother training your staff to do both!

That's why prices for repairs such as your mates bumper have risen as there are less people able to do a good job so charge a premium for their service effectively pricing the less valuable car owners out of the market.
Now listen here you mullet...

A modern "Repair Centre" wanted £700  to fix this

so the car was Written off, so I took the £900 write off value and spent a whole hour polishing it out. :D

I have a complete rear bumper in red, has a gash in the same corner which isn't a catastrophe but does need filling and painting. I've also got a fuel flap in red too! Tailgate doesn't look too bad though.

As a suggestion to the cars owner, the likely hood is there will be a LOT of minor rust behind the bumper so its probably worth taking the bumper off and having a good clean out and put it back together. IMHO this relates to the state of the boot floor and is possibly one of the reasons some fail long before others.

Thanks anny, could I getthe filler flap from you then please mate, cars due here tomorrow, will get the bumper off and take a looky and see if it can be reapaired. I imagine the tailgate will be awkward to fix as its right on the corner if they bother at all.

With the bumper I'd try finding a specialist fibreglass (TVR) repairer and get a quote to do that - at least you'll know it's been done properly if someone else is picking up the tab.

Tailgate looks a problem to me - I'd be trying to get a replacement and get it repainted if it was me. I can't see it being possible to bond something to that edge and get it looking right and get it painted right.

I agree adrian, I fortunatly have a spare tailgate in my shed albeit in the wrong colour, its complete but the wires have been cut when it was
removed.
